Elsie Peyton Jarvis and her son, Eugene, establish three scholarships for aspiring nurses

When Elsie Peyton Jarvis, Nurs ’47, enrolled in the Johns Hopkins School of Nursing, she did so in the footsteps of her mother and her aunts.

“We were privileged to go to one of the first schools of nursing in the country — and still one of the best,” Jarvis says.

Decades later, she endowed two scholarships in memory of her family members. And in 2017, her son, Eugene Jarvis, created a third scholarship to honor Elsie. In this video, she shares memories of her time at the School of Nursing during World War II and shares her strong belief the impact today’s students can have on the patients with whom they work.
