Bloomberg Distinguished Professor Paul Ferraro explores the concept of “trade-offs”

Are protecting the environment and alleviating poverty mutually exclusive? Paul Ferraro, a Bloomberg Distinguished Professor jointly appointed in the Carey Business School and Whiting School of Engineering says “no,” but acknowledges there isn’t much research to prove it. With support from the professorship. Ferraro is studying human behavior — specifically, the concept of trade-offs — in solving these and other global challenges.

“The Bloomberg Distinguished Professorship program encourages faculty to take risks, work that defies categorization, to address the great intellectual and social challenges of our day,” Ferraro says.

The Bloomberg Distinguished Professorships were established by a $350 million gift from Hopkins alumnus, philanthropist, and three-term New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg.
