K-8 school serves 500 families in East Baltimore

When fundraising for the Rising to the Challenge campaign started in 2010, Elmer A. Henderson: A Johns Hopkins Partnership School was little more than an idea, says principal Peter Kannam. But the school — which was the first new school built in East Baltimore in more than two decades when it opened in 2014 — has grown to serve 500 families.

The school is bolstered by a partnership with Morgan State University and the Johns Hopkins School of Education, which provides instructional and curriculum expertise and guidance.
