Grounding Baltimore As A Film Center

Revitalized Parkway Theater boosts Hopkins and the community

One of Baltimore’s oldest theatres received a new lease on life in 2017 when the Stavros Niarchos Foundation and Johns Hopkins debuted the renovated Parkway in the city’s Station North neighborhood.

The film center’s opening was a boon not only for Hopkins’ Film and Media Studies Program, but also the Baltimore creative community, becoming the home of the Maryland Film Festival.

“It is this visible beacon of change happening, bringing people in and allowing them to mix through the experience of film,” says Meredith Ward, A&S ’03, director of the Hopkins Film and Media Studies Program.
