2012 Senior Class Gift Campaign
I Heart Hopkins
The Senior Class Gift campaign invites the Class of 2012 to begin building a legacy of alumni engagement and philanthropic giving by making their first donation to Johns Hopkins University. All seniors are encouraged to give $20.12 or more to commemorate their graduation year. Make your online gift today!
What does my gift support?
It's often expected that your Senior Class Gift be something tangible, like a bench or flagpole. Instead of funneling donations to a specific project or fund, we have placed the power of philanthropy in your hands, allowing you to choose where to designate your gift. To have the greatest impact on the undergraduate life, we encourage you to donate to the area of greatest need, the Hopkins Fund.
What is the Hopkins Fund?
The Hopkins Fund supports the financial, academic, and social needs of the undergraduate students on the Homewood campus. This fund is a discretionary fund, meaning that the Deans of Krieger and Whiting are able to shift money to the most immediate needs of the Homewood community. Over the past few years, due to the economy and the leadership of President Daniels, the majority of the fund has been used to support undergraduate financial aid.
In addition to the Hopkins Fund, where can I designate my gift?
Designate your gift to an area of Hopkins that you are passionate about: your student organization, your favorite athletics team, your academic department, the libraries, the hospital, the list goes on and on!
What are the campaign's goals?
This year, our goal is the have the highest participation rate of any senior class at Johns Hopkins to date.
Want to make your gift go further?
Double your gift - For every senior who makes a gift of $20.12 to the Hopkins Fund, an anonymous Johns Hopkins alumnus has generously agreed to match each gift, up to 500 donors.
Win $5,000 for your sport - Make a gift of $25 or more to your athletic team and participate in the Forever a Blue Jay Challenge. The sport with the highest percentage increase in dollars from 2010-11 to 2011-12 and the sport with the highest giving participation percentage will each receive a $5,000 gift to their respective programs. Why should I give?
-
Tuition only covers about 70% of a student's education. The other 30% comes from the support of alumni and friends of the university.
-
Giving helps to sustain and improve the reputation of Johns Hopkins, and in turn, the value of your degree. The giving participation rate is an important indicator in the U.S.News & World Report rankings.
-
It adds up! In 2010, 75% of gifts to Hopkins were between $1-$100, totalling $3.6 million. When combined, these modest gifts have a tremendous impact.
-
Wouldn't it be great to pay it forward? Your gift will help better the Johns Hopkins experience for tomorrow's students.
-
More than 48% of undergradutes receive financial support directly from the university. The overwhelming majority of our financial aid budget comes from current use/unrestricted funds (80%), not the university endowment (3%).
-
Our peer institutions have senior class giving rates 20-40% higher than Johns Hopkins. Who wants to lose to Harvard, Penn and Yale?
