Johns Hopkins University (USA) Foundation Ltd (all of JHU)
United Kingdom residents may make gifts to any area of Johns Hopkins through the Charities Aid Foundation. Johns Hopkins has a trust in the U.K. allowing residents to make Gift Aid donations directly to Johns Hopkins and the Bologna Center. This will enable those who pay taxes in both the United States and the United Kingdom to receive tax advantages from both the IRS and Inland Revenue.

Print our giving form, complete it, and return it to the address indicated on the form for processing.

The Johns Hopkins University (USA) Foundation, Ltd., is a U.K.-registered and dual-qualified charity. Gifts to any school or division of Johns Hopkins (e.g., the Krieger School of Arts and Sciences, SAIS, the School of Medicine.) made in the United Kingdom are eligible for Inland Revenue’s Gift Aid.

What is the Inland Revenue Gift Aid Scheme?
Gift Aid means that for every pound you give to The Johns Hopkins University (USA) Foundation, Ltd., the school or division you have selected at Johns Hopkins gets an extra 28 pence from the Inland Revenue. For example, a £50 donation is worth £64, a £100 donation is worth £128, a £500 donation is worth £640, and so on.

In addition, higher-rate taxpayers are eligible to reclaim as much as £23 for every £100 donated to Johns Hopkins by including details of their Gift Aid donations on their Self Assessment form.

For example, a £100 gift will have the impact of £128 and a higher-rate taxpayer can reclaim £23 on his or her Self Assessment form. There are many gift aid calculators online that can quickly illustrate the impact of your gift as well as what you can reclaim if you are a higher-rate tax payer. An example can be found at http://www.itforcharities.co.uk/gaidcalc/hightax.htm.

What is a dual-qualified charity?
A dual-qualified charity is important for those with tax interests in both the United States and the United Kingdom.

Generally, gifts made to a U.S. charity allow the donor to take a deduction from their U.S. income taxes for the gift. Accordingly, U.S. citizens who are U.K. residents or otherwise have U.K. income or capital gains taxes and who make a gift to the Johns Hopkins University (USA) Foundation, Ltd., may be eligible for both U.K. Gift Aid and U.S. income tax charitable deductions.

There are various requirements for deductibility of gifts for U.S. tax purposes, so please consult with your U.S. tax attorney if you have questions regarding any donation.

For additional information, the IRS Web site provides useful background information, such as IRS Publication 526 - Charitable Contributions.

How does my donation reach the school or division of Johns Hopkins that I have indicated?
The Johns Hopkins University (USA) Foundation, Ltd., consists of a board made up of Johns Hopkins alumni and friends in the United Kingdom. The board v gifts made to The Johns Hopkins University (USA) Foundation, Ltd. and their designations throughout the year. The board votes to approve the wiring of gifts from The Johns Hopkins University (USA) Foundation, Ltd. account to Johns Hopkins with the indication of the area you chose to support.
